In Fabre d'Églantine's 1793 rural emblem annex to the French Republican calendar, Pâquerette is the emblem of 24 Ventôse (14 March).
🜱 On sentiments: Called by some authors 'the first toy of infancy', it is children's attraction to daisies and their habit of picking them from the meadows and lawns to play with that gives them their sentiments of innocence, infancy and cheerfulness.
The sentiment j'y songerai, or I will think of it - here meaning 'I will consider it' - arises from the tradition of courtly love in Mediaeval poetry. The conceit: while noble ladies were not allowed to express their feelings publicly, they could utilise a code to express themselves to their knightly counterparts. When a knight proposed to a maiden, she could signal her intentions by how she wore daisies, with a crown of daisies - placing the flowers on her temple - indicating that she was considering his proposal.
