🜱 On sentiments: The sentiment of variety, in its many forms, is drawn from the wide variety of colours achieved in cultivated forms of this flower.
The sentiments I will think of it and I partake your sentiments arise from the tradition of courtly love in Mediaeval poetry. The conceit: while noble ladies were not allowed to express their feelings publicly, they could utilise a code to express themselves to their knightly counterparts. When a knight proposed to a maiden, she could signal her intentions by how she wore daisies, with a crown of daisies - placing the flowers on her temple - indicating that she was considering his proposal. Here the two - 'I will consider it' and 'I accept' - are assigned the two forms of Chinese aster flowers, single and double.
The sentiment automne (autumn) arises simply from the season when these flowers bloom. Similarly comes afterthought, as, like a thought that occurs after the moment has passed, so these flowers bloom after summer has gone.
