Region:
Native: North Southern America; Central America; Caribbean.WFO
Introduced: Tropical central Africa; Madagascar; temperate and tropical Asia including China and the Indian Subcontinent; tropical Australia; Maryland; Pacific islands; GalĂĄpagos.WFO
Seasonality: Annual or perennial, flowering summer through to early winter. Each flower survives for only a day. Should be sheltered against frosts in temperate climates. Leaves contract at night, and when touched; while this is their appeal as a curiosity, it should be kept to a minimum as it is energy-intensive and interferes with the plant's ability to photosynthesise.
Period Colours: Flowers pale purple, contracting at night, and also when touched.SJH
